#8 – Taylor Swift (Singer-Songwriter)
Just the 3 chords she was taught at age 12 were enough for Taylor to write her first song “Lucky You”. That is how gifted she is. At age 15, and having moved from Pennsylvania to Nashville looking for a break, and regardless of her obvious talent, Taylor got rejected by many labels and had no other option but to excel, be the best, in order to stand out. First hired as a songwriter and asked to write songs for other singers, Taylor had to wait until 2005 when she joined Big Machine Records and created her own album, at age 16 called Taylor Swift. All the albums released since then have resulted in spectacular success, selling hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide, which explains why as of today Taylor is worth over 200 millions, without a doubt, one of the most successful musical artists of the 21st century. Why is she so incredibly successful, a lot more than some other great talents like Katy Perry and Ariana Grande? There are a few theories.
Taylor started off in music with a genre as humble as country, not aiming at masses like pop. She hasn’t tried to become a sex symbol in order to have more fans. Her music talks about personal experiences, so specific and relatable that she has become that BFF we all wish we had. Fans can dance to, cry to, laugh to Taylor’s songs… or do all at the same time! She is careful enough not to take all her success for granted and actually takes the time to look after all aspects of her career, and worry when things don’t go as expected, even though she has enough personnel to worry for her. With over 60 million followers on Twitter alone, Taylor has such a powerful influence over social media, her words matter and she is aware of it, like the time when she criticized Apple’s royalty payment plans for streaming services, and they listened! But most of the time she uses the relevance of her opinions to help out others, and occasionally, even to unexpectedly surprise her fans worldwide.
Bits of Knowledge: Even when you are at the top, never take every step you’ve taken for granted. It has been a long road up, possibly a difficult one, so now that you’ve made it, don’t stop caring and paying attention to all the small details that took you as high as you are!
